The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a recall alert on May 20, 2021, after pet food manufacturer Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc. voluntarily recalled its L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets Green Pea & Chicken Formula Dry Cat Food.
The recall was a cautionary measure and related to potential salmonella contamination discovered during routine testing. There were no reports of any illness or adverse reactions.

Why was it recalled?
Salmonella bacteria can cause an infection when consumed, which causes vomiting, diarrhea, fever, excess salivation, and decreased appetite in cats.
It can also cause similar symptoms in humans if they handle contaminated products, so be sure to wash your hands after handling your cat’s food. Some cats may not show symptoms but can still spread the bacteria to other household pets and humans.
Where was the product sold?
Products were distributed nationwide in the U.S. and Canada via both retail and online distribution. No other Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc. products are impacted by this recall.
